Barrington Von Adams - Daddy Vego - founded the People's Sound system and opened the shop on All Saints Road in the late 1980s. He had come to Britain from Jamaica in the 1950s and was the original selector for the country's first sound system, playing seven years of nights at the Roaring Twenties in the West End. The music policy is ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, lovers rock, roots, ragga, jungle, soca, rhythm and blues, jazz, blues, soul and dancehall. Daddy Vego died in 2016 and his family and friends have kept both the shop and the sound going, still a fixture of Carnival. Sources give the late eighties rather than a single year, so no founding year is claimed here
