Mori Tsutomu opened Pet Sounds on 22 April 1981 outside Musashi-Koyama station, having worked in another record shop first, and named it after the Beach Boys album - the idea being that you come in and find your own pet sounds. It shut on 31 January 2005 when the station was redeveloped, traded from temporary premises from that November, and reopened at its current address on 15 March 2007. Mori runs it with his son Yoma and staff, and unusually it deals only in new stock - roughly five thousand CDs and five hundred records, majors through to independents, and nothing second-hand
