Phonopolis is on Bernard Ouest in the Mile End and was founded and is staffed by musicians who play in the city's own bands, which shows in two places: a strong local section, and a programme of in-store shows. It is the definition of a neighbourhood record shop rather than a destination one - the stock reaches around the world, but the reason to go is that the people behind the counter are part of the scene the shelves are documenting.
