Planet Wax grew out of Disc World in Deptford and moved to New Cross Road in 2022. It exists because the 1-800-Dubplate cutting service needed a physical home; a crowdfunder paid for the premises and the shop came with it. The racks are underground dance - jungle, drum and bass, hardcore, UK garage, dubstep, house and techno - across new releases, reissues and second-hand, and there is a bar and a regular Open Decks night where anyone can play. Staff hold shows on Rinse and Kool FM. Having a dubplate lathe on site ties it directly to sound-system practice rather than just selling records about it
