Plastic Soul Records opened in December 2022 in Kita-ku, Kyoto, near Kamigamo Shrine. It is a used record shop built on 60s to 90s jazz, rock and soul, though the racks run all genres: ska, rock steady and reggae, Latin, Brazil, Japanese rock and pop, UK soul and acid jazz, soundtracks, Africa and other world, hip hop and neo soul, electro, blues, punk and power pop, neo acoustic and indie, post punk and new wave, and a 7-inch section of its own. The buying policy is originals, or the closest thing to them in second and third presses, in the best condition they can find. A cafe space inside means you can break for a coffee and work through the crates slowly. Open 11:30 to 19:00, closed Tuesdays, with an online shop running alongside.
