Play De Record began as a counter in Eugene Tam's father's drugstore and grew over twenty-five years into the spiritual home of Toronto's DJ scene. It sells house, techno and hip-hop twelves alongside the equipment to play them, runs production lessons and CDJ practice setups, and doubles as a concert ticket counter - so it functions as infrastructure for the city's dance music rather than just a shop that stocks it. On Spadina, and it has been the answer to "where do I start" for Toronto DJs for a generation.
