RARE's Nakano shop stands at the entrance to the Sun Mall arcade, a minute from the north exit of Nakano station, and is the original of the three - Nakano, Kichijoji and Kunitachi. Its own site calls it forty-five years in the trade, without naming a founding year, so none is claimed here. The racks run wide rather than deep in any one direction: kayokyoku and J-pop, Western rock, jazz, bossa nova, soul and classical, on record and CD, and it buys, coming out to collect a big enough haul.
