Ratzer trades as Records & Beer and delivers on both counts, from Hauptstaetter Strasse 154 in Stuttgart. The black gold and the liquid gold, as the shop puts it. The vinyl side keeps a running new-release shelf, recent picks taking in Hot Chip's first band anthology, the last Saint Etienne album and Gilberto Gil. The room doubles as a venue: bands play the shop itself, doors at seven, free in, donations welcome. Recently refitted and reopened, and still working off the house motto that a life without records and beer is wasted.
