Barry Everard opened Record Collector in Broomhill in 1978, fresh from managing a Virgin shop, and it has become a hub of Sheffield music-making rather than simply a shop that sells to it. Stock runs to something like fifty thousand records and twenty-five thousand CDs across rock, pop, indie, metal, jazz, blues, soul, reggae, soundtracks, folk, world, classical, country and rockabilly, new and second-hand, with part exchange and thousands more titles listed online that never make it onto the shop floor
