Derry Watkins and Natasha Youngs met stacking CD shelves at the local Virgin Our Price and opened Resident in 2004, wanting to give Brighton the record shop they thought it deserved after years working for the chains. People laughed at them for opening a record shop in 2004. Two decades on it is still on Kensington Gardens in the North Laine, multi-award winning, with a large vinyl operation, a serious online side, in-store performances and signings, and a real part in the city's live calendar.
