Claudio Pérez and Alejandro Baeza started Retroactivo in 2004 in a corner of Pérez's mother's antique shop, which is a fair description of how most great second-hand shops begin. It outgrew that and moved to Calle Jalapa in the Roma Norte, the street that has since become Mexico City's record row, and now holds upwards of 35,000 records: rock, jazz, disco, metal, progressive, pop en español and tropical, with the used racks the reason most people come.
