Augustus Pablo opened Rockers International on Orange Street in 1979 and named it after the sound system he had run as a teenager, holding neighbourhood dances with his brother after illness took him out of school. The shop and the label became one of the routes Jamaican music took out to the rest of the world, and Orange Street is where that trade physically happened. Almost all of it has gone now: Rockers and Randy's are the last two record shops left in downtown Kingston. This one went quiet for a while and was reopened by Pablo's children.
