Rough Trade came to New York in late 2013 with a 10,000 square foot former warehouse on North 9th Street in Williamsburg, built out with shipping containers and carrying a 250-capacity venue at the back. The pandemic ended that: the Brooklyn shop closed in March 2021 and the business moved to 30 Rockefeller Plaza that June. It now runs on two levels - Rough Trade Above at street level and Rough Trade Below on the rink level, which holds the all-ages live programme alongside new and used vinyl, turntables and band shirts.
