Roxy has been selling records in Singapore since 1962 and is still run by the same family, these days from a unit upstairs in Excelsior Shopping Centre. The stock runs from obscure 1960s LPs to this week's releases, and the reason it matters more than its size suggests is what it did in the sixties and seventies: Roxy ran its own label, Precious Urn Records, pressing 7-inches and cassettes of local Teochew opera and Mandopop singers - music that had no other route onto a record and would otherwise simply not exist now.
