Antal Heitlager opened Rush Hour in 1997, growing it out of his own record collecting and DJing. It started as a small shop stocking obscure records from everywhere and turned into one of the most trusted names in the business, running a label and a distribution arm that producers in Detroit and Chicago rely on. The shop sits in a narrow building on Spuistraat, split over two floors with a living-room feel on the main floor, and the racks run through house, techno, electro, disco, hip-hop, soul, jazz, reggae and Brazilian and African records.
