Shake It began in 1979 as a label started by Jess Hirbe and Daryl "Doc" Kalmus to put out records by Cincinnati bands. Brothers Jim and Darren Blase reopened it as a shop in 1999 and moved into the Hamilton Avenue premises in Northside on 11 September 2001, where it still is. It carries over 25,000 titles on vinyl and 15,000 on CD, and runs the label alongside the shop, which is why its reputation travels a long way past Ohio.
