Peter Howard opened Sifters in April 1977 and moved it to Fog Lane in 1983, where it still is. In the late eighties Noel and Liam Gallagher were regulars, digging for Smiths, Joy Division and Happy Mondays records years before Oasis existed. Noel wrote the shop into Shakermaker in 1994 - the line about Mr Sifter selling him songs when he was just sixteen - and Peter Howard has been Mr Sifter ever since. It stayed exactly what it was: a small second-hand shop of vinyl, cassettes, CDs and DVDs at sensible prices
