Smekkleysa - Bad Taste, literally Tastelessness - was set up in 1986 by a circle of musicians, artists and poets out of the early-eighties Icelandic punk explosion, and it is the label that gave the world the Sugarcubes and, through them, Björk. It still runs, owned by Einar Örn, the Sugarcubes' singer, and publishes poetry, short films and Icelandic gifts alongside the records. The shop is small and charming, heavy on Icelandic music on vinyl and CD. A label this important having a shopfront at all is the reason to record it
