Jeff Barber had opened a record shop in Milwaukee in the late 1990s and came to Toronto in 2001 looking for a bigger market. The city was split between chains selling new product and small shops selling used, so he built something that did both at scale. The first shop was at 512 Bloor Street West in the Annex, lost later to redevelopment; the business moved to Honest Ed's on Bathurst, ran a smaller shop in Kensington Market, and settled at 215 Spadina Avenue in 2014. It is now the largest independent record store in Canada.
