Soul Brother started in 1991 at record fairs and as a mail order business run out of Putney, and opened the Keswick Road shop a few years later. It is a specialist and unapologetic about it: rare groove, disco, modern and northern soul, classic jazz, jazz funk and rhythm and blues, around thirty thousand records on the floor and a great deal more in storage. Laurence Prangell buys directly in America - Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, Washington - and the shop has become an institution in the UK soul scene, with Randy Muller, Lonnie Liston Smith and Carmen Lundy among the regulars.
