Paul Mills opened Soundclash on St Benedicts Street in February 1991, after learning the trade in Norwich shops including Backs Records on Swan Lane - the shop and distributor that put the city on the independent map in the eighties. Soundclash has been the cornerstone of the local scene ever since: new releases, dance and independent stock, gig tickets, and the counter through which most Norwich bands have shifted their first record.
