Speed City Records opened on 1 March 1997, after the London shop In Yer Ear closed and Michael Todd decided to build something that lasted in its place. It has been a working London record store ever since, open every day, buying and selling records and used CDs, and it runs the London Record Show. The name comes from a record: Jim Ashby cut Speed City at Track Four Sound in 1970, and Todd grew up with it.
