Spillers opened in 1894, which makes it the oldest record shop in the world - it predates the vinyl record by more than fifty years. Henry Spiller started it in Queens Arcade selling phonographs, wax cylinders and shellac discs, and repairing instruments on the side. His son Edward took it on in the 1920s, and the shop moved to The Hayes in the late 1940s. A rent hike in 2006 nearly finished it and a local campaign saved it; it moved into Morgan Arcade in 2010 and to its present spot at number 27 in 2015. Ashli Todd runs it now, and vinyl is still the point.
