Jon Lottman ran Spin Time online for three and a half years before opening the doors of a shop on the second floor of 613 Pennsylvania Avenue SE on 2 November 2024. The specialism is not a genre, it is a city: DC music of every era and every kind, go-go and hardcore and jazz and soul and hip-hop and Americana, alongside a reggae section. It stocks new pressings rather than used, deliberately, on the grounds that with local music it matters that the people who made it see something from the sale. In Lottman's words, "civic and cultural pride and consciousness in the nation's capital is very much bound up with the city's musical life and history"
