Starlight was established in 1976 by Popsy and Desmond Bryan and took over one of the units Trojan Records vacated when it folded in 1975. It is a label as well as a shop, releasing the owners' own productions and acting as the London outlet for Jamaican producers including Prince Jammy, Winston Riley and Bunny Lee. With Hawkeye across the road it is one of only two record shops left in Harlesden, out of the dozens that once lined Craven Park Road and Church Road, and it is marked on the Harlesden Walk of Music
