Sub Pop is the label Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman founded in 1988, and the one that put Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney on record and Seattle on the map. Sub Pop on 7th opened in January 2021 as the label's flagship shop - small, tightly chosen, short on opening hours - in South Lake Union at the base of an Amazon headquarters tower, which is its own comment on what happened to the city. The airport shop that ran at Sea-Tac from 2014 closed on 31 December 2025, leaving this as the label's only retail room in Seattle
