Sunrise Records began in 1967, founded by Lin Min-san and Zhang Bi as an agency importing European and American classical music into Taiwan, at a point when that was a genuinely difficult thing to do. It became the first company in Taiwan to own an independent recording studio, which turned an importer into part of the country's own record industry, and the shop on Zhongshan North Road has been the public face of it ever since.
