BBE - Barely Breaking Even - is the label DJs Peter Adarkwah and Ben Jolly started in 1996, named after the Universal Robot Band's 1982 track, and it has been putting out disco, soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz and house ever since. The shop began in 2016 as a pop-up marking twenty years of the label and stayed. It lives in Arch 376 alongside a bar, restaurant and workspace, and stocks thousands of new and second-hand records and CDs: BBE's own catalogue past and present, releases from Brownswood, Mr Bongo, R2 and Atjazz, and second-hand stock bought out of private collections
