The Diskery opened on Bristol Street in 1952 as a jazz and swing specialist and has never stopped, which makes it the oldest record shop in England still trading. The stock reflects the long run: second-hand and rare vinyl alongside 78rpm jazz and swing that most shops stopped racking decades ago. The staff are known by name and nickname rather than job title - Lee the Boss, Liam the Oracle, Danny the Reggae, Pete the Prince - and a browse here tends to come with conversation and, if you are there long enough, a cup of tea. It is a shop that treats digging as something you do slowly.
