The Record Album has been thirty yards from Brighton station since 1948, which makes it the city's longest-serving record shop by a distance. George Ginn ran it for fifty-six years, from 1962 until he retired at eighty-eight in 2018, and turned it into what Garth Cartwright called Europe's foremost soundtrack shop - film scores, theatre and classical racked with a seriousness almost nobody else gives them. Ginn died in 2023 at ninety-three. Keith Blackmore and David Chappell now run it and have kept the specialism and the habits intact, including the condition of the stock, which was always the point.
