Third Man opened on Marshall Street in September 2021, the first Third Man Records store outside the United States and the third of its buildings after Nashville and Detroit. Jack White designed it himself across 2020 and 2021, during the pandemic, with the stated aim of keeping record sales and live performance alive at a point when both looked precarious. Two floors of retail sit above the Blue Basement, a sixty-capacity room used for ticketed shows and unannounced ones, and the fittings came from Nashville - a 1950s vinyl recording booth, and a till White refurbished himself
