Jack White started Third Man in Detroit in 2001 and opened the Nashville building on 11 March 2009, which is where the whole operation lives: the record shop, the label offices, distribution, a photo studio, a novelties lounge with a working record booth you can cut a disc in, and the Blue Room - the only live venue in the world that records direct to acetate, through a 1953 Scully lathe. Bands passing through Nashville get invited in to cut a song or two, which comes out as a Blue Room 7-inch with the sleeve shot in the same building
