Paul and Jill Epstein were teaching high school English when they bought a shop called Underground Records at a tax auction in March 1988 and turned it into Twist & Shout. It opened on South Pearl Street, moved into a former Safeway near Alameda and Logan in 1995, and made its biggest jump in 2006 to East Colfax, where the 11,000 square foot shop still is. It came through the Napster years that took down Tower and Virgin, then rode the vinyl revival. The Epsteins retired in 2022 and sold to Brown, an employee who had worked at all three addresses.
