Velvet Music Dordrecht is run by two music-addicted brothers and started life in 1973 as Simpele Fons, known as a specialist for pop and rock. The brothers took it over in 1996 and kept that reputation with a sharp buying nose, then moved to the Vriesestraat in 2001 after a cramped building and an uncooperative landlord, joining VelvetMusic, the purchasing group for independent record and CD shops. The range widened into jazz, hip-hop, blues and soul and funk on both CD and vinyl. Seventeen years later the shop became part of Het Magazijn, a building holding a restaurant, art library, gallery and other specialist shops, and the vinyl collection grew again.
