Taro Tsunoda spent fourteen years at Amazon before opening waltz in Nakameguro in 2015. He had been collecting cassettes since reading Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture in 2004 and had over three thousand of them by the time the shop opened; it now runs past six thousand, including current releases from American and European labels that barely circulate in Japan. Vinyl, VHS and old magazines sit alongside. Gucci noticed and put out a collaboration with the shop in 2018, which is not a sentence many cassette shops can write
