Westsider Records has been at 233 West 72nd Street since around 1997, a few steps from the subway. Dorian Thornley and Bryan Gonzalez, both former employees, took over the neighbouring bookshop in 2002 and picked up the record shop two years later when its owner lost interest. It is the Upper West Side's vinyl treasure trove for classical and theatre, with jazz, rock, hip-hop and international records running alongside. Bruce Eder, who manages it, has been connected to the shop for close to fifty years, starting as a customer.
